How Government Energy Grants Work — A Simple, Honest Guide

The grant process sounds complicated. In practice, it breaks down into a clear sequence of steps. Here’s exactly what to expect when you work with EcoGrants.

How It Works

Step 01

Eligibility Review & Confirmation

Our team reviews your checker results within one business day. If anything needs clarifying, we'll call you. We'll then confirm which scheme(s) you are likely eligible for and explain clearly what that means — what works are covered, the process, and the timescale.

Step 02

Free Property Survey

An accredited assessor visits your property to confirm suitability for the recommended works, assess existing insulation or heating, and produce or update your EPC if required. There is no cost to you for this survey.

Step 03

Grant Application

EcoGrants manages all paperwork and submits your application to the relevant scheme. We handle follow-up requests and keep you informed throughout. Most applications are processed within 2–4 weeks.

Step 04

Installation by an Accredited Contractor

Once your grant is approved, works are completed by an accredited installer. All contractors hold the appropriate certification — MCS for solar and heat pumps, PAS 2030/2035 for insulation and retrofit works.

Step 05

Handover and Aftercare

After installation you receive full handover documentation, warranty information, and any relevant guidance. We follow up at 30 days to confirm you are happy.

How Long Does the Whole Process Take?

What Does It Cost?

For fully qualifying households, approved improvements are funded in full — zero cost to you. Some mid-eligibility households may be asked to contribute a portion. We confirm this clearly before any works proceed. There are no surprise costs.
